Why parents pick Trewena

A weekend you'll actually rest on.

Three minutes from campus

Penryn Campus (Tremough) is three minutes by car. Falmouth Campus and town are ten. Picking up for dinner is quicker than parking on a campus visitor lot.

Sleep that survives a long drive

King or super-king bed, proper linen, electric blanket. No hotel breakfast room, no shared kitchen, no thin walls. Quiet enough that you actually hear birds in the morning.

Hosts who know the campus run

Rich and Hellen live on site. Around when you need a steer to a quiet pub or a graduation lunch booking, invisible the rest of the time.

Three reasons parents come

Drop-off, mid-term, graduation.

Open Days & drop-off

A base for the weekend.

Campus visitor parking is a scrum on Open House Saturdays and accommodation booking weekends. Trewena gives you somewhere three minutes away, a kitchen for the family meal, and quiet to recover from the hauling.

Mid-term visits

Dinner, laundry, and a bit of stillness.

They come to you for dinner and laundry. You go to them for coffee on the harbour. Two nights or five. The cottages are built for being still in.

Graduation weekend

The big one. Book early.

The whole family comes down, hotels in town are sold out a year ahead, and you need somewhere that has not priced you out by April. June books up six to nine months ahead, so secure November or December for the safest pick.

A returning family

We found Trewena Cottages a few years ago when our daughter started at Penryn University. It was the perfect location as only 5 minutes up the road from the uni where she stayed. We would collect her to come have dinner with us, do some laundry and then drop her back off again. Since then we have been back twice and managed to stay in all three cottages. We liked them all, they all have something different so it is hard to choose.

We have also done some beautiful sightseeing from here as everywhere is easily accessible. Hellen and Richard are the best hosts and always happy to give some recommendations for places to see. It is such a beautiful area and we just love sitting in our garden having a coffee or cider.

We recommend Trewena to all our friends and family.

Common questions from parents

Visiting Penryn or Falmouth campus.

How close is Penryn Campus to Trewena?
1.3 miles, three minutes by car. The campus is also called Tremough Campus, same place. It is the main campus for both Falmouth University and the University of Exeter's Cornwall site (bio sciences, environment, mining, geology).
What about Falmouth Campus?
Falmouth town has a separate Falmouth University site (mostly arts and design). It is ten minutes from Trewena, in the town itself. If your child is at Falmouth Campus rather than Penryn Campus, you are still well placed.
When should I book for graduation weekend?
As early as you can. Graduation falls mid-July. By April most local cottages are gone and hotels are at peak prices. Booking in November or December for the following July is the safest play.
Can my son or daughter come over for dinner?
Yes. Every cottage has a full kitchen. Park outside, eat together, drop them back. Many parents make this a routine over a longer visit.
Can they do laundry here?
Yes. Every cottage has a washing machine. Plenty of parents end up doing a fortnight's worth during exam weeks.
Where do I park on campus when visiting?
Penryn Campus visitor parking is paid and busy in the mornings. Most weekend visits do not need it: your child can walk down to the road for pick-up. Open Days and Graduation have specific parking arrangements and the university sends a guide ahead of time.
Which cottage is best if grandparents are tagging along?
The Tractor Shed. Single-floor, walk-in shower, one shallow step at the entry, off-road parking right outside the door.
